A poll from KSTP-TV in Minneapolis released today has Democratic Sen. Tina Smith ahead by just one percent against her Republican opponent Jason Lewis, 43-42 percent. It was conducted by Survey USA (rated A by FiveThirtyEight), with 12 percent undecided and three percent supporting other candidates.
Smith led by 47-36 in September and 44-37 earlier this month in polls by the same outfit.
A local college political analyst, Steven Schier of Carleton College, was quoted by the television station as saying that it’s a surprise that the race has suddenly gotten so close and could go either way.
Lewis is a former talk show host who won Minnesota’s District 2 House of Representatives seat in 2016, but was defeated in 2018.

What’s going on in Minnesota?
Polls have seemed up and down for Joe Biden, mostly in the single digits. A MinnPost poll released Tuesday had Biden ahead by just five percent (49-44). (That same poll had Tina Smith ahead by four, 48-44 percent.)
That poll, conducted by Change Research (rated C- by FiveThirtyEight), was conducted mostly online “targeting survey takers based on geography, age, gender, race and partisan identification via advertisements on websites and on social media.”

However, other polls have had Biden ahead by low single digits, as well.
The same poll showing Smith ahead by just one percent has Biden leading Trump by single digits, too 48-42.
Can anyone more familiar with MInnesota politics shed any light as to what’s going on there?
In any case, it wouldn’t hurt to send Smith a contribution to help ensure she prevails.
