If you’re old enough to remember stories about activist nuns like this NY Times 1971 article (click to enlarge image)…
… you know how effective nuns can be in protest movements.
Who the nuns were who were positioned behind Trump in his Circleville, Ohio rally isn't particularly relevant to me. Why they decided to not only attend his rally but to allow themselves to be used as a backdrop isn’t either. I assume it is because they strongly support him because they see him as pro-life and either don’t think about his anti-life cruelty or, impossible as it may seem, just don't know about it.
I have no doubts that nuns who were active in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War wanted the publicity that getting arrested gave them.
Similarly, I am pretty sure that the nuns sitting behind Trump were happy to have been asked to sit behind him.
The nun-stunt got him attention at Fox News (Nuns wearing MAGA masks spotted behind Trump at rally) and Brietbart, and on Twitter.
Here’s a good illustrated article from The Daily Mail: 'God was right behind our president!' Internet goes wild for three 'MAGA nuns' spotted holding up a Bible in front row during Trump's Ohio rally” which has a selection of tweets.
Again, none of this earns more than a hoo-hum, just another new outrage, from me.
Whoever has the job of finding people to sit behind Trump at rallies probably could have found a few black people but I didn’t see any in the background photos which would end up in the news (click to enlarge image):
This suggests to me that the Trump campaign has given up on attracting more black voters.
To me using the nuns just reeks of desperation, but then I am biased. I have to say that it achieved its goal of grabbing headlines.
