Joe Biden has put the official mark on Georgia’s battleground state status, with a campaign visit Tuesday to Warm Springs—the site of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s favorite retreat—and to Atlanta for a drive-in rally. Early voting is already at record-breaking levels, and growing every day.
“Kamala Harris on Friday, Jill Biden twice in two weeks and now Biden is visiting Tuesday,” state Rep. Calvin Smyre told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Georgia is pivotal and back on the political map.”
A recent poll finds that young voters—who overwhelmingly support Joe Biden—are far more enthusiastic about voting this year than in 2016. Volunteer with NextGen America to send text messages to young voters in 11 battleground states and help them make a plan to vote.
A new Civiqs poll is among a handful that show Biden leading in Georgia, while several other polls show an essentially tied race. Georgia also has not one but two competitive Senate races, and the Civiqs poll shows Jon Ossoff not just leading but above the 50% needed to avert a runoff, while Raphael Warnock is at 48%. Biden’s visit and get-out-the-vote efforts stand to help their critical campaigns as well.
Nearly 3 million people have already voted in Georgia, where just over 4 million people voted in the 2016 election. Not voted early—voted. This is … astonishing and historic. We need to make sure it’s an astonishing, historic win.
