Welcome to another edition of Woozle Wednesday
Hello Peeps, welcome to our little corner of Woozleville at the PWB Peeps [that’s Pooties (cats), Woozles (dogs), Birdeez (duh), and us Peeps of course].
Yes, it’s Woozle Wednesday, that day of the week when the PWBP Pooties take the day off and the pooches come to the rescue and politely take up the slack — well, those that are trained not to pull on their leashes. Don’t worry, pootie lovers, the kitties insist on making an appearance even though it is supposed to be their day off. They just can’t help putting in their two meows worth. Other critters like birdeez, small pets, farm animals, and sometimes wild creatures, will also make appearances from time to time.
A Bit of Background ...Let the Mischief Begin
Yes, the spooky season is in full swing. Readers may recall from last week that young woozles and their pootie pals and woodland friends here in Woozleville have been making plans for a Mischief Night celebration. Well the day (or night) has finally arrived.
Be prepared for some seriously fun and good-natured animal mischief below. But first, a bit of Woozleville history... for Peeps Mischief Night is mostly a thing of the past, for obvious reasons that we won’t go into. Just last year, in this very virtual space, I was reminiscing about these golden days of my youth, surrounded by the usual adoring set of woozles and a few pootie neighbors.
“Mischief Night?” the woozles said, “Sounds like something we would enjoy. Tell us more.”
And so I did. I explained that it was an “informal holiday” on which children and teenagers engage in pranks. It has its roots in the 18th century, and possibly earlier. The earliest reference to Mischief Night was in 1790 in England, when the pranks were described as “an ode to fun.” Sounds harmless enough. It became known by a variety of names including Devil's Night, Gate Night, Goosey Night, Moving Night, and Cabbage Night. (Here I noticed some of the pooties taking notes). [If you want to read last year’s Woozle Mischief Night diary, here is the link, for more history and regional differences from the UK, Canada, New England, and the Northeast U.S. Inaugural Woozle Wednesday Mischief Night Edition 2019]
The woozles decided they wanted to put their own stamp on this day. Or night. Animals from the surrounding environs were invited to participate. After last year’s successful night of mischief, the Woozleville Community Events Committee decided to make Mischief Night part of the annual calendar. Traditional pranks like toilet-papering, cabbage tossing, and moving garden gnomes are on the agenda. The puppies might have a few surprises up their sleeves, or collars, or bandanas or …. whatever. Their efforts at interpreting the run-up to Halloween can be seen below the fold.
But before the poochs and their pals commence to mischief merry making, we must pause or paws for the Rulz per the Management:
- Do not “Troll” the Pootie Peeps Diaries. If you don’t like animal diaries, there’s no need to tell us about it. Just go find some other diary more to your liking.
- Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
- If you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
- There are some pics we never post: snakes and creepy crawlies (some folks have phobias). Any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated.
- If you’re not sure about an issue...please ask. Someone is always glad to help.
- Community Links are always welcome here.
OK, Woozlevillagers, Mischief makers, and other guests, let’s get together below the fold.
