When you have a president who doesn’t believe in science, you end up with an audience of pure believers who also don’t believe in science. As Vice President Joe Biden said: “What the President says matters.” Listening to these words, Jason Harpe launched a website: unmasktogether.com, which asks his fellow science deniers to rush into places of business and refuse to follow their posted guidance on wearing a mask.
Remember the Republicans who wanted the right to refuse anyone? Well, I guess now, the right to refuse an unruly mob who won’t pay attention to store policies is A-OK.
Kansas Reflector brought the issue to their pages today, thanks to the work of Sherman Smith, we have a better idea of what the creator of “unmasktogether” really was promoting. What does it really promote? Well, ridiculous tropes and debunked science, combined with a commitment to expose others.
I would like to note, the part about: “enjoy your shopping experience”, should likely read: “your shopping experience will be interrupted by a security guard and people booing you as you are ushered out of a store. Besides, you didn’t decide to go there to actually shop, you went to cause trouble.” From the Reflector:
“I believe this to be a manufactured crisis, and it’s being used as a tool for testing compliance of the public,” Harpe wrote. “The mask mandate doesn’t make sense and takes away our right to make our own decisions regarding our health.”
Hmm. Takes away the right to make decisions about our own health. Hmm. I guess it’s just me, but my next question would be: “So, how do you feel about Roe V Wade”?
“There is a cost to remaining silent on the mask wearing issue,” Harpe wrote. “What is next? Mandatory vaccines?”
He urges followers to unmask together “by signing up to receive announcements to attend large shopping groups at local stores now requiring masks for service.” And, if they are interested, he is offering $22 Unmask Together T-shirts.
Welp, OK then. Grifters gotta grift. But, for now, they just seem content making themselves into biological weapons. Hooray for everyone else.
