The Media and politicians are wondering if Trump’s taking dexamethasone is making him fucking nuts. No one will say it that crudely, but it is what they are talking about. I know. “How can anyone tell that Trump has been driven crazy when he already IS crazy?” Believe it or not, dexamethasone is only making Trump WORSE. I’m no medical expert, but I had an emotional breakdown caused by a medication just like dexamethasone. And I was informed by the emergency room doctor that the medication I was on can cause “psychosis” in some. I wasn’t psychotic, but they had to have a security guard watching me until I was discharged.
No, I am not exaggerating or making that shit up. Let me explain how I got to that place.
I found out the hard way that I was allergic to a common over the counter medication. When you ingest something that you are unaware you are allergic to, you begin to react within minutes. And I went into anaphylaxis and was heading for shock. There was a rash that was all over my body that made me look like a leper, lots of vomiting, and I passed out. My kidneys stopped functioning, and I went into tachycardia.
I was prescribed prednisolone, which has a similar chemical structure to dexamethasone (pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/...). This was done to turn down the inflammatory response of my immune system. After several days, I was feeling better and able to go home.
Unfortunately, no one metioned the possible psychiatric side effects of prednisolone. And there is quite a list.
Psychiatric adverse effects during systemic corticosteroid therapy are common. Two large meta-analyses found that severe reactions occurred in nearly 6% of patients, and mild to moderate reactions occurred in about 28%. Although disturbances of mood, cognition, sleep, and behavior as well as frank delirium or even psychosis are possible, the most common adverse effects of short-term corticosteroid therapy are euphoria and hypomania. Conversely, long-term therapy tends to induce depressive symptoms. Dosage is directly related to the incidence of adverse effects but is not related to the timing, severity, or duration of these effects. Neither the presence nor the absence of previous reactions predicts adverse responses to subsequent courses of corticosteroids. Corticosteroid-induced symptoms frequently present early in a treatment cycle and typically resolve with dosage reduction or discontinuation of corticosteroids. In severe cases or situations in which the dose cannot be reduced, antipsychotics or mood stabilizers may be required. This review offers an approach to identifying and managing corticosteroid-induced psychiatric syndromes based on the type of symptoms and anticipated duration of corticosteroid treatment.,
Did I mention that I suffer from depression?
While at work, my anxiety levels began rising to the point I had a panic attack. I normally don’t get anxiety per say, so it was extremely strange to feel as if I was going to go out of my skin while feeling like an animal pacing a cage. My emotional breakdown was so bad that an ambulance had to be called, and I was off to the emergency room. Again.
While at the hospital, it was finally explained to me by another doctor, “There are psychiatric side effects to prednisolone.” No fucking shit. It was then I was told that psychosis happened in more severe cases. It was during this time that I had a security guard stay in the room with me so that I wouldn’t do any harm to myself.
Yes, they told me that straight up.
So off the prednisolone and lots of drinking fluids to flush out the rest. I was told to get my urine to look as clear as possible. So piss like a race horse Merlin1963.
Now, I admit that I already had a mental illness when placed on prednisolone. And while no one has seen Trump’s medical records, his niece thinks that Trump hasa plethora of mental health issues. And she is a therapist, if I recall correctly. Or has a background in psychology.
And any layman can look at Trump’s actions and say as we do in the South, “He ain’t right. He just ain’t right.” The narcissism and sociapathy are on full display. What do you think dexamethasone does to an already mentally ill subject?
They really need to invoke that 25th Amendment, but they won’t.
