Taking the stage as the first Black and South Asian woman to be picked as the vice presidential running mate on a major-party ticket, Sen. Kamala Harris proved to us she deserved to be there as soon as she opened her mouth. The debate has just begun and Harris is already slaying.
Within her two-minute opening Harris reminded the American people of the consequences of Donald Trump and his administration’s lack of a coronavirus response. Trump and his administration have had more than ample time to address this virus ,yet they have continued to call it a hoax and “minimize the seriousness of it,” Harris said.
Despite now knowing for months that the pandemic exists and the lives it has cost, the Trump administration still does not have a plan. Although Trump himself is infected by the virus and is clearly having difficulty breathing, instead of coming up with a plan he has opted to continue his nonsense and tell his supporters that the virus is not a threat.
Harris noted Trump’s inability to understand the importance of wearing a mask. Last week, Trump mocked former Vice President Joe Biden during the presidential debate for how frequently he wears a mask. He has also repeatedly stated that the administration is working on drugs and vaccines for the virus but failed to disclose his plans for affordability and access.
Harris expressed that not only do she and Biden have a plan that works around national strategy for contact tracing, but they will ensure a vaccine is “free for all.” Of course, Trump and Mike Pence don’t believe in universal healthcare or increasing access to health— so how can they top that?
“We need to save our country and Joe Biden is the best to do that,” Harris said. “Frankly, this administration has forfeited their right to reelection based on this.”
