As each day unfolds with Trump failing to concede the election results or do anything sane about containing the covid pandemic, he is setting himself to go down as the biggest loser among all US presidents. [You can get off the hot seat now, George!]
Any possible thoughts of him or any of his family running in 2024 also become that more delusional, because he himself has pointed out that you don’t vote for losers.
His enablers in the GOP will also become tainted by this loser, as will the GOP itself. They enabled the election of a loser, who through his pathological narcissism allowed a virus to balloon into a catastrophic pandemic in the US, trashing an otherwise relatively healthy, if flawed, economy generated by the Obama administration. If you will recall, the Obama administration bailed out the economic crash by the previous GOP administration.
This has all the hallmarks of a recurring Greek tragedy: a selfish political party cons its way into power, crashes the economy and employment with its unbridled greed, and then is replaced by a party that cleans up the mess — and then the cycle repeats. Obama cleaned up after George Bush, but this loser has created a mess of truly epic proportions, and there is less hope that Biden can scoop enough of the US up off the floor this time to ensure any long-erm economic security.
But as he tries to do so and calls for unity among Americans, he’ll need to educate them about why it happened and why he may not be able to do more than make a dent. If he doesn’t, this cycle will spiral into a repeat that might send our nation into economic failure for decades, if not permanently.
What does a repeat look like? This latest cycle indicates the GOP is being led by well funded right wing extremists who are waiting for their pliable dictator. They are not American patriots, and have no interest in the welfare of the United States, but simply themselves, as their decades-long tax policies show. The beta model GOP president to whom we have all have been exposed over these past four years adulated dictators, wished he were one, and in exchange for power was willing to elect judges that would limit female reproductive freedoms. This wannabe dictator — and his enabler, the GOP — wasn’t interested in a democracy, nor a republic.
Indeed, the Republican party at this point is flagrantly anti-republican; their “fiscal conservatism” is applied only to their own purses. The GOP has been successful largely due to keenly honing their marketing skills to con voters. In 2016, the GOP conned voters into supporting their pyrrhic pyramid economic 1% rich scheme in exchange for creating courts that dictate reproductive freedoms to all American women. Unknowingly, these voters voted against their own families’ health and economic welfare to do as all the unemployed and covid-dead GOPpers illustrate, sadly. In the 2020 election the GOP managed to con enough voters into at least electing enough GOP senators that would nullify any change the voters were hoping for in the president they elected.
It’s time for democrats to hone their marketing skills and show what the blatant GOP record over the past 2 decades has been for US employment, a key indicator of economic health and American family welfare. Here’s a graph to get started:
The first GOP administration increased US unemployment 2 % in just 3 years. The following DEM one reduced US unemployment by 3 %. The next GOP one increased it by 1 %. The following DEM one reduced it by 4 %. The latest GOP one increased it, as of Oct 2020, by 2 %. GET THE PICTURE YET? [original graph from statistica.com] (Does anyone know how to make inserted pics bigger in these pieces?)
Graphs like this should be a standard tool for creating generic pro-DEM ads to attract voters. Along with some good heart rending pics of homeless families to send the message straight into voters’ hearts.
Biden needs to educate the 2022 voters about how bad the mess is that he’s inheriting via Trump and the GOP enablers, and why he won’t be able to do more to fix it.
In the meantime, where are the DEM marketers? Our nation needs them more than ever, before the great short-sighted GOP con game destroys it, even as this ever-growing loser counts his last days, and tries to figure out yet more ways to trash our nation.
