First I would like to apologize for missing days 4-6, but I had life issues to take care of. And while I would like to post what I had planned for Thursday, Saturday and Today, what matters most is to post what I was going to post on Friday. And that is the remembrance of those that were lost this year. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was and is the 20th of November, a day to remember those who were lost to violence.
The reason why this is important is because trans men and women suffer a higher rate of depression and a high rate of assaults that end in death.
This past year over 50 trans individuals lost their lives in the US from violence brought onto them by others, none of them deserved it. And worldwide that number is over 400. These are just the reported deaths, there are likely dozens if not hundreds more around the world every year.
If one included the number of those that commited suicide… that number would be even higher.
While this year may not have been the deadliest for trans individuals, it is still a tragedy that they were killed by others simply for being themselves.
There are many sites that cover their names, and i implore you to know their names, look up their stories and remember that they were people just like you and that none of them deserved to die.
The way forward is change, to change the minds and hearts of those out there. To get others to understand that we are people and that nobody deserves.
Remember them
