You may have seen Trump taking credit for the Dow hitting 30,000. If not, here it is.
If you do a news search for Trump and the word sacred you will see that all or almost all of them put the word “sacred” in quotes but none go into how offensive this is, especially to religious people and what it says about the president’s beliefs.
You’ll find this on MarketWatch:
The article, such as it is, consists of merely the one paragraph shown above:
President Donald Trump on Tuesday hailed the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.53%surpassing 30,000, calling it a "sacred number" shortly after the milestone was reached. Trump also said he was "thrilled" with progress towards developing vaccines for COVID-19, but took no questions from reporters at the White House briefing room. Trump has not conceded the election to President-elect Joe Biden, even though the White House has given approval to begin the transition process.
Here are some of the comments to the article:
-
As previous comments, Mr Trump has homed in on and is apparently taking credit for the 30,000 'sacred' number, whilst completely ignoring the 258,000 number that underscores his catastrophically incompetent handling of the pandemic. Now he will bleat and tweet in self pity for the next 4 years about he was cruelly robbed at the ballot.

Sorry, Trump doesn't get to claim it.in 2016, he claimed all the stock market upswing after election day, before his inauguration. So, any market changes now belong to Biden.
-
Trumps gone, so stocks go up. This is like having a stock go up when the CEO is fired. Nothing to brag about.
-
Never in my life have I seen someone so willing to take credit for something that has nothing to do with him.....
-
Is he going to declare a national holiday for Sacred 30,000 Day?Trump said the DOW would tank if Biden was elected
-
That was a very strange appearance. By the time newsrooms cut to live video it was already over. Lasted what, about a minute total and no questions? Isn't this what his Twitter account is for?Funny how markets go up every time Trump gets clobbered over the last few weeks. At this point he'll have to handcuff himself to the radiator in the Oval Office if he wants to stick around past January 20th.

I wonder what word he chooses to describe the 257,000 deaths of American citizens that occurred on his watch. Many of which occurred due to his incompetent 'management' of the pandemic.
-
Actually Trump's 'sacred number' would be more like 6-6-6. This market is rallying on the strength of a Biden Administration.
-
Now the reality will need to settle in as the COVID cases rise and could force many more companies out of business and individuals out of work. No one wins here, He gambled with our lives, with our money and LOST.Shame
-
Just think.....in 2 months we don't have to listen to anything this clown says anymore.....
-
30,000 on the DJIA after the Fed took TRILLIONs of tax payer money to pump into the economy. He should be thanking the American people- It was your money!!!
....and this gem: I believe it will be called "Don's Giving" or something like that.
.
The closest reference to religion came in the comment that said Trump’s 'sacred number' would be more like 6-6-6. There’s more about that in my conclusion.
Even though I am not at all religious the first thing that jumped out was his use of the word sacred, perhaps because I pay a lot of attention to how words are used and what they say about the person using them. That’s why I looked it up to see if there were any other definitions besides a religious one. The closest usage that wasn’t meant to necessarily be religious was as it is used in the idiom “is nothing sacred anymore? The meaning is obvious: A set phrase used to bemoan a lack of respect for something or some topic, often used by somebody to complain that people do not respect traditions, ideas, values, etc. as much as they should. Free dictionary
In this way it applies to what a religious Trump supporter ought to be saying about Trump calling a stock market number sacred.
I looked through the first 50 articles about this and couldn’t find any posted on religious websites. If you find one please put a link in the comments.
I doubt Trump saying this will sway the hardcore evangelical supporters to question their belief about him. They are described in this Oct.15th article:
The author of this article, Adnan R. Khan, visited one church where the pastor had an armed guard sit next to him explaining “We’ve had a few death threats. The political climate is very tense right now.”
What Khan found is chilling and can be summarized with the following:
What’s consistent throughout is the belief that Donald Trump and the coronavirus pandemic are somehow necessary agents to the proper functioning of God’s plan. Anyone who gets in the way is the enemy, an agent of darkness.
What if they could be convinced that Trump has been an agent of darkness”
While it is incredibly difficult for someone who swallows a con job hook, line, and sinker, that they were suckered in, it is still possible. Evangelicals like those described in this article might actually be more inclined to admit this if the evidence was compelling enough. This is because there is a way they could admit it to themselves because it is consistent with their belief system. They would have to admit that Trump was an agent of the Devil.
Evangelicals believe that the Devil is Master of Deception and the Father of Lies. There should be no shame in being taken in by one of his demons.
I’m not holding my breath for this to happen.
