At least it seems like this endless Election Day will end...at some point...if the networks ever call it.
It’s not like we haven’t been here before so...I thought that I’d make a few comparison between the 2000 elections and the 2020 elections
First off, yes there are more states being contested (which could have happened in 2000). That has allowed us to take a slight peek at urban America with Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Phoenix at the center. The block parties in Philly are awesome.
Whereas in 2020: 36 days of full-fledged Florida craziness.
Advantage: 2020
2020 efforts to count the votes has featured three female Democratic Secretaries of State: Michigan’s Jocelyn Benson, Pennsylvania’s Kathy Boockvar, and Arizona’s Katie Hobbs
vs.
(trigger warning!)
Seriously, on the liberal side of the aisle, there have been a very few people that have been more...hated? despised? than former Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris.
Advantage: 2020
Finally, in 2000 (yeah, I know, 1/20/01), a damn fool was inaugurated as President of the United States.
In 2020, The Damn Fool will be leaving the office of President of the United States.
Advantage: 2020
I mean, in 2000, 36 days felt like 36 years.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. From Paul A:
The comment by Ozarkblue in today's APR by Greg Dworkin deftly outlines the true characteristics of many Trump supporters and points out why "compromise" with them is futile.
From belinda ridgewood:
The thread of Mark Sumner's diary this morning about the counts flipping blue in Pennsylvania and Georgia had so many good comments! I picked out a few for topness:
Since Daily Kos snark is at its best at times like these, no surprise that
yet another diary, Laura Clawson's noting that Kamala and Joe plan to speak this evening, had
this excellent response by
angry marmot.
From Kalisiin:
This
comment from
direwolf84, From
Laura Clawson’s front page
post on Trump’s post-election rage and denial.
From sillymommy2001:
Loved this comment by Brubs this morning, in Laura Clawson’s post on increased Secret Service protection for Joe Biden.
"The only way that Trump can reach 270 at this point is by losing 50 lbs. Welcome President-Elect Biden!"
From north left:
Laughing Gravy had the best characterization of Trump's problem with being "sore" after election results. From Laura Clawson’s front page post on Trump’s post-election rage.
From FindingMyVoice:
I want to nominate elemenoPea's comment,
"Stacy Abrams should be elected grand empress of making sure shit gets done. And she should get a million dollar salary to serve as such.
I can’t say enough good things about her."
in aPauledInNJ's diary, 'Stacey Abrams Should be New DNC Chair' today.
Brava, Stacey!
