Another bit of good news this week. Dogs are returning to the White House! The Bidens are definitely animal friends and two awesome german shepherds are getting ready to move their dog beds into the President’s house. Joe Biden stated that he has had dogs in the family since he was a child and is committed to helping animal welfare and rescue organizations — yay! In fact Major is a rescue dog that the Biden family were fostering until they just decided that Major was theirs forever. Champ became a Biden in 2008, when Joe was elected VP, and has eight years of DC experience to help Major. These two dogs will bring a lot of joy and good will to the White House. Let’s get to meet our new First Pets of the United States.
Here is a great twitter feed showing the excitement for dogs in the White House. Lots of pawsitive comments.
And I just need to include this pic. Best support and security ever! And do yourself a favor by clicking on the Dogs4Biden hashtag.
Next we have to check the pet friendly credentials of VP-elect Kamala Harris — and I think this tweet is enough. Pups approve of our next VP.
What about the other team blue presidential candidates? Here is an article about their furry friends. Senator Warren’s golden retriever, Baily, even has a twitter account.
In looking around the internet at dog pictures (also called research for this article) I came across several interesting bits about animals in the capitol. Most of our presidents have had some sort of pet and I can imagine the comfort given by such a companion was well appreciated. These are humans in a lonely, high stress job and the animals can help their person stay grounded and calm. These are not always small animals as some pets have been sheep, horses, and a cow. So here are a few more links to learn about the rich history of pets in and around the White House.
Some presidential pets since Washington
Presidential pets since 1901
There is even a presidential pet museum
P.S. This is a happy news diary entry so I’m not mentioning *45 and the lack of pets. Dogs and cats know.
