Good morning gardeners, and welcome to another downheah edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging! Last month, I focused on our Founder, Frankenoid. You can revisit that diary Here. This is the second in a (sort of) planned 3-part series on the history of SMGB. Today, I want to focus on the period after Franki stopped writing every SMGB diary every week, roughly 2011 thru 2016. Please note that she still wrote and hosted the SMGB diary 2 or 3 times a month during most of this period….
Franki formally founded the SMGB “group” in February, 2011, with the advent of the DK4 platform. At this point, she decided to take one week off a month and invited other members to write and host the SMGB diary on the 2nd Saturday of each month.
The 1st SMGB diary published by anyone other than Franki was written and hosted by blue jersey mom...here.
These “middle years” also featured the 1st SMGB diaries by some folks y’all may know…

For some reason, I had missed this one until this morning. It’s notable for, among other things, tomatoes! I'll show you mine.
I am a relative latecomer here at SMGB, but I am fascinated by this groups’ history. One thing I note about these “middle years” diaries is that they are very “picture heavy”, compared to earlier years. I suppose that this evolution is partly due to platform changes/upgrades at Dkos itself, but mostly because readers love pictures! Speaking of pictures, and the fact that Christmas is rapidly approaching, check out this diary from Eddie C back in 2014: Christmas Windows

What’s going on in my garden, you might ask? “Next to nothing” is the short answer. The Tomato Patch has been cleared and raked, but I still have not gotten around to planting the mustard cover crop. The next 10-12 days look to be relatively warm, so I may try to get that done tomorrow...
The Pepper Patch looks equally neglected and forlorn, but I take heart in the fact that I’ll be sowing my first pepper seeds in less than a month...
Ah, seeds...I’ve started the mind numbing task of compiling next years’ tomato grow list. Since I am woefully disorganized, this early effort usually consists of me rummaging around in the seed box and mumbling to myself a lot. ;/ I’ve decided that I’ll be growing tomatoes entirely “in-ground” next year, so that limits me to about 33 plants. I think that I have seeds for over 150 different tomato varieties, so wish me luck!
Well, that’s about it from downheah this fine Saturday morning. Bama (10-0), will be playing Florida for the SEC Championship tonight, so there’s that… What’s going on in your gardens? And, as Franki was fond of saying: “Remember, I want pictures!” After the recent snowstorm up North, I’m sure several of y’all have some amazing snow pics to share!! ~Peace~
