Hanukkah is over, winter solstice is past, and Christmas is two days away (yikes!). Over the past few years, I’ve offered a music diary on the solstice, so I will again tonight. Since 2016, I’ve used the winter solstice as a metaphor for our political moment. I believe that the light is in the process of returning, but Trump seems to be holding fast to darkness with the intention of plunging this nation into darkness forever, if he can manage to do so. Given the proliferation of civil lawsuits, the bad guys are going to have a very hard hard time ahead of them. But a real return of the light hinges on Democrats winning the Georgia runoffs. You know what to do. Democracy is a verb!
An eclectic assortment of some of my favorite music for the holidays is found below the fold, as well as today’s comments, but first, a message from our sponsors:

No nominations tonight, but...
From Fffflats:
Stephen Dreyfus wrote against a diary (by Michael Vykun proposing a 28th Amendment) that I believe didn’t think through the consequences of suggested actions. There’s currently a punishment mindset running through DK that seems to override 2nd order cause, effect, effect’s effect thinking. With his comment, Stephen shows himself not so enamored. While certain governmental functions and powers have been abused recently, they have purpose. We don’t want to lose these purposes in the fight to prevent abuse.
