I am not a poet, but fortunately, I have a couple of friends who occasionally try their hand at it. So I will share their works with you. The first was written by a woman in her nineties who was revived from the frustration and despair of isolation (due to COVID) by the challenge of writing poetry following the formal rules of a rondeau. She sent this with her yearly Christmas greeting:
We long for light, a shining way.
Tales of travelers, kings and star,
Hope through the years, to places far.
How harsh the temper of this day,
are discord, sorrow here to stay?
Will wounds become a tender scar?
We long for light.
Timeless song and language say
No darkness can forever mar
Nor still the universal heart.
For life, for people, hope and pray
We long for light.
I wish and hope that when I’m in my nineties (should I live that long) that I have the intellectual capacity, the stamina, and the perspicacity to attack something new.
The second poem is a bit of doggerel by another friend for the coming change of administration.
Kick up your heels,
Pour out the wine,
Christmas is here,
Why would you whine?
Covid is hard,
but much could be worse,
if Trump took the vote,
you could call up my hearse.
This year has surely been one for the ages,
we shook our clenched fists,
we fought and
we rage-ed,
But the tunnel is ending,
the way becomes clear,
our sojourn continues,
with love and good cheer!!!
So my content tonight is stolen from friends. These poems gave me hope and cheer, and I hope they do the same for you.

Can't rec this comment by doncoolidge enough. 1 med. & 3 short paragraphs, gr8 insight, not a word out of place. From Aldous J. Pennyfarthing’s recommended post in the delay of stimulus due to a Trump tantrum.
From Youffraita
praesepe has a diary-worthy comment, filled with linky goodness, about Rushdoony and the birth of modern Christian racism, and how it's related to authoritarianism. From HalBrown’s post on how to prepare to counter Trump and his supporters after he’s gone from the White House.
