Civiqs is announcing the launch of daily tracking surveys gauging Americans’ views of the U.S. government’s response to the novel coronavirus and level of concern about possible outbreaks in their local area.
Through March 10, 2020, Civiqs polling shows that only 23% of Americans are “Completely satisfied” with how the coronavirus outbreak is being handled by the U.S. government. A majority of Americans (51%) are either Not very satisfied (15%) or Not satisfied at all (36%) with the government’s current response.
Despite increasing public health warnings and event cancellations across the United States, only 18% of Americans say that they are “Extremely concerned” about the possibility of a coronavirus outbreak in their local area. A plurality, 33%, say they are “A little concerned,” and 21% say they are “Not concerned at all.”
The results show significant divisions across party lines. A majority (50%) of Republicans are “completely satisfied” with the government’s current response to the coronavirus outbreak. And while just 21% of Americans are unconcerned about a local coronavirus outbreak, fully 39% of Republicans are not concerned.
Civiqs’ tracking polls will provide daily-updated information with over 600 new interviews nationwide every day. Results can be broken out by key demographic factors—including age, race, gender, education, and party identification—to provide a snapshot of public opinion on coronavirus concern and the government’s response that exists nowhere else in public polling.
Soon, Civiqs will be expanding its results to provide breakdowns of Americans’ opinions in all 50 states -- an essential resource as the possibility of regional coronavirus outbreaks looms in the upcoming weeks and months.
The updated daily tracking polls of Americans’ opinions on the coronavirus, which have been ongoing since Feb. 25 and are based on over 3,300 responses through March 10, are viewable via interactive online dashboards at civiqs.com, along with all of Civiqs’ other public polling.
“Civiqs’ groundbreaking polling is providing insights into public opinion on this crucial public health issue that no other survey can offer,” said Civiqs director Drew Linzer. “Our unique poll results interface provides granular detail into attitudes towards the novel coronavirus outbreak and the Trump administration’s response to it. We will continue to track Americans’ views on this issue to measure how significant events over the coming weeks and months impact public health and wellbeing.”
