Sitting here in social isolation and worry in New York (thank you, Gov. Cuomo for your sane and measured leadership), there are times that I need something to laugh about amidst the grimness of the news.
This did the trick for me today:
N.J. comedian’s riff on Trump’s coronavirus response goes viral
J-L Cauvin’s spoof of Trump has drawn nearly 3 million views since he created it and posted on Tuesday afternoon…
In the video, Cauvin — a lawyer turned comedian — mimics Trump’s mannerisms and word-salad delivery, while speaking in a voice nearly indistinguishable from the president.
Cauvin, as Trump, muses about firing Dr. Anthony Fauci — whose facepalm in response to Trump similarly went viral — two days before Easter on “Great Friday," vows to improve the economy “toughly,” and ends by coughing loudly into his hand.
“I have decided — I’m announcing today — we are going to bring back the economy on Easter Sunday. Because God who, to be honest is — you know, he’s a good God, he’s done some strong things, some — let’s be honest — his record is like not so great though," Cauvin as Trump said.
Here’s the YouTube clip:
Donald Trump wants to bring the economy back by Easter as a way to one-up God.
And the tweet:
Cauvin has an interesting (and humorous) bio.
J-L Cauvin was born in New York City to an Irish-American mother and a Haitian father. The second of two children (he has an older brother), J-L’s parents decided he was enough, probably because he weighed 10 lbs, 7 oz at birth. While in school J-L cultivated a reputation as a joker with a wide array of impersonations of teachers and fellow students. He can be found in the center of the back row of every class photo because he was always the tallest kid in class. Among the highlights of his elementary school career were being taller than his third grade teacher (he was 5’2″ in 3rd grade and his teacher was 5’1″) and developing his Jean-Claude Van Damme impression in 5th grade.
He graduated from Williams College, and then went to Georgetown Law.
J-L was named Washington D.C.’s funniest college student, despite not really being a college student, in March 2004 at a sold out show at the D.C. Improv. After moving back to New York upon graduation from GULC in May 2004, J-L continued to work harder and harder as a comic, all while working as an Assistant District Attorney during the day in the Bronx. After leaving the DA’s office, but before pursuing comedy full time, J-L was an associate at a large law firm where he learned two things: having money is great and he was actually the office “black guy,” despite looking Egyptian at best. He has been featured on The Late Late Show, NESN Comedy All Stars, Comics Unleashed, ESPN’s The Dan Lebatard Show and is a regular on The Adam Carolla Show.
What I think is really funny, is Trump is once again being superbly mocked by a black guy, who has roots from one of those countries Trump has dubbed “a shithole.”
