President Trump sent a letter to the governors wherein he sticks to his plan of opening businesses in a hurry. He’ll do so by classifying counties differently, from “high risk” to “low risk.”
This strategy is an absolute disaster for our nation. Rural counties will be hit especially hard. In many rural counties, hospitals have closed but their nursing homes and elderly population remains. As the administration pushes for relaxed rules, you’re going to see a return to normal or a call of “it never hit here anyway” in communities like those in rural America.
That seems great, but all it takes is one incident of this illness in those communities and we ignite the spread of this disease among the most vulnerable. They have absolutely nowhere to go. No hospitals. Not many doctors.
Proclamations like these will encourage Trump fans to go back to “not a big deal” mode, encouraging people from high-risk areas to just spend time in lesser risk areas—encouraging movement.
Rural America, which has been overwhelmingly Republican for some time, now has a president in the White House that cares much more about stock traders than them. He really doesn’t care a whit if he ends up causing permanent damage to his own base.
