[On Saturday {March 21}, Gov. Abbott issued {Executive Order GA 09} that “all licensed health care professionals and all licensed health care facilities shall postpone all surgeries and procedures that are not immediately medically necessary to correct a serious medical condition of, or to preserve the life of, a patient who without immediate performance of the surgery or procedure would be at risk for serious adverse medical consequences or death, as determined by the patient’s physician.” This prohibition applies throughout the State and {includes} routine dermatological, ophthalmological, and dental procedures, as well as most scheduled healthcare procedures that are not {urgent} such as orthopedic surgeries or any type of abortion not medically necessary to preserve the life or health of the mother]. The Texas Attorney General's office on Monday [issued a statement that “Health Care Pro­fes­sion­als and Facil­i­ties, Includ­ing Abor­tion Providers, Must Imme­di­ate­ly Stop All Med­ical­ly Unnec­es­sary Surg­eries and Pro­ce­dures to Pre­serve Resources to Fight COVID-19 Pandemic” [pursuant to that executive order "to expand hospital bed capacity as the state responds to the COVID-19 virus."]. Texas is the latest state to halt abortion services amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

...Those in violation will face "penalties of up to $1,000 or 180 days of jail time."

“We must work together as Texans to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that our health care professionals and facilities have all the resources they need to fight the virus at this time,” said Attorney General Paxton. “No one is exempt from the governor’s executive order on medically unnecessary surgeries and procedures, including abortion providers. Those who violate the governor’s order will be met with the full force of the law.”

Defying norms of “Social Distancing”, anti-abortion protesters all over the country are still gathering in groups larger than 10 in front of abortion clinics, and not staying 6 feet apart. They feel that “the corona virus is a punishment from God for abortion”...

Clinics report that they come up to patient cars and touch them [and] are harassing the patient support people that are staying in their cars to avoid crowding the waiting rooms. They are attempting to touch patients and clinic escorts as they enter and exit the building. Since some white nationalist groups have declared the coronavirus to be a weapon, it’s not much of a stretch to fathom that the same is going on here. How do we know if one of these protesters is positive and intentionally trying to infect people?

This activity is contrary to all guidelines related to COVID-19. These are the same people that believe this pandemic is not a serious situation. They are so obsessed with “fetal life” that they are putting real people’s lives in danger. Police departments need to put a stop to this immediately...

A healthy baby was delivered by cesarean hysterectomy to a 33-year-old woman with a deceased-donor uterus, a case study [published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology] reveals.

"Uterus transplantation is the only known potential treatment for absolute uterine factor infertility," write Dr. Tommaso Falcone of Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and colleagues. "Until recently, all live-births resulting from uterus transplantation involved living donors, with only one prior birth from a deceased donor…."

The current case report ... is from Cleveland Clinic's clinical trial of uterus transplantation, which opened in 2015 and is ongoing. In 2017, a 33-year-old woman without a uterus was matched to a 24-year-old parous deceased brain-dead donor.

"Obtaining an excellent uterus with a proper blood supply is the most challenging aspect," Dr. Falcone said in an email to Reuters Health.

Some 24,000 people responded to a call for retired doctors, nurses, therapists and university students with sufficient skills to register with the health service so they can be pressed into service as they are needed in the weeks ahead.

Around 65,000 nurses and midwives are practicing in Ireland with 15,000 doctors registered to work, 7,000 of whom are currently doing so, according to their registering boards.

On Monday, Health Minister Simon Harris said there would be no financial limits to the recruitment program and no constraint on the numbers to be hired, telling prospective candidates: "Your country needs you."

"The huge response ... is a testament to the solidarity of Irish people and we wish to thank those who have put themselves forward to work with us during these unprecedented circumstances," Health Service Executive National Director of Human Resources Anne Marie Hoey said in a statement.

The recruitment effort is drawing doctors and nurses back to the country from Canada and Australia, where many young Irish medical professionals find work after they complete their training in Ireland.

Ireland has 292 confirmed cases of coronavirus but Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Tuesday the government expects that to rise to at least 15,000 by the end of the month. The total number of confirmed cases in British-ruled Northern Ireland is 68….

Here in California, newspapers around the state are reporting students at lots of nursing schools saying they want to get in the covid-19 fight, e.g., sfchronicle.com and tehachapinews.com  — and it’s worth noting that the reports are from red counties as much as blue ones, at least in this state. Similar is reported for NewYork state and no doubt all around the country and world; it seems to be true of medical(doctor)students and other health workers all over, too.
