U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams dodged coronavirus question he praised Trump’s health In an interview. He said:
Speaking to (Jake) Tapper on Sunday, Adams tried to paint his boss as a picture of good health.
Dr. Adams it should be noted is the Surgeon General and is not the president’s personal doctor. Here’s his Wikipedia profile. As a physician of course he can have far better informed opinions about someone’s health than a non-physician even though he hasn't examined Trump personally, although as an anesthesiologist I think this isn’t the specialist I’d chose to assess my overall physical condition.
There’s been a lot of discussion about how some mental health professionals ignored the Goldwater Rule and made public assessments about Trump’s mental health without both examining him and having permission to do so. There may be a Golden President Rule which says that if as a physician if you praise Trump’s health you not only can, but should make your medical opinion public.
The president’s current personal physician is Sean Conley, D.O. (see Wikipedia), a name you probably haven’t heard before. Conley became the Physician to the President upon Ronny Jackson's nomination for VA Secretary. He became the acting White House physician on March 28, 2018 and on May 4, 2018 became the Physician to the President. His specialty is emergency medicine but according to this website he has an overall patient experience rating of 1.8/5.0 which begs the question as to why he was selected to be the president’s doctor. Does his bedside manner include sugar-coating any health advice so he doesn't offend the mercurial narcissist who could fire him in a predawn tweet?
Appearances can be deceiving, but I have to say that Surgeon General Adams looks to be in excellent health, especially when compared to President Trump. For his sake I hope he is in better physical condition than a president who has a common form of heart disease and a lifestyle that increases his risk for having a heart attack.
Like most men of his age, President Donald Trump has a common form of heart disease, relatively easy to address if he increases the dose of his cholesterol-lowering medication and makes necessary lifestyle changes. Without those changes, the President has a moderate risk of having a heart attack in the next three to five years, according to the Mayo Clinic. From CNN
Trump wants to be surrounded by sycophants who lavish effusive praise on him. Has the Surgeon General succumbed to the well known highly contagious disease of Trump Praise Syndrome?
We can only hope that the specialists advising Trump tell us the facts despite Trump’s desire to politicize the coronavirus news to his advantage. He’s already put Dr. Oz on his Coronavirus Crisis Team.
Why Is Alleged Quack Dr. Oz the Face of NBC’s ‘Coronavirus Crisis Team’? Daily Beast
Meanwhile, a May 2018 article by Rina Raphael, Fast Company magazine’s health and technology writer, decried Donald Trump’s appointment of Oz to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
“The inclusion of Dr. Oz took many in the health industry by surprise, especially those who have been following the TV star’s snake-oil antics over the last few years,” Raphael wrote. “Oz has been repeatedly called out for his support of false, deceptive products and unproven medical practices, both from the medical community and consumer watchdog groups.
“His appointment clearly speaks in no way to his reputation as a trusted medical source, but rather to his celebrity status—and the ability to parlay that into multiple business opportunities. Perhaps that’s what Trump, who has shown a preference for pundits over experts, finds appealing.”
More likely, Trump was simply rewarding Oz for letting the then-Republican presidential nominee and his daughter Ivanka onto the Sept. 15, 2016 installment of his syndicated show to tell whoppers, unchallenged, about his physical condition, especially the obvious sham that the obese candidate weighed only 236 pounds. Oz accepted at face value the conclusions of Trump’s discredited doctor, Harold Bornstein, who declared that his patient “will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”
UPDATE is highly relevant to the poll:
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, for instance, is a Mike Pence crony who previously served as the Indiana state health commissioner. He was intimately involved in the horrific HIV outbreak in that state, where Pence refused to authorize a needle exchange program until a number of people had died unnecessarily. Naturally, Trump appointed him surgeon general.
Poll: Will the doctors in this picture tell the truth to the public even if it offends Trump?
