It rained last night. I’ve known for some time that when it rains here in Houston that the amphibians come out. You can hear them. Oh yeah, the cryptic title, I don’t know who owns the Daily Bucket moniker and if I’ve stepped on toes or broken use rules, I apologize. Back on target, I’ve always wanted to go out looking at night and I finally did. Ah, stay at home, it gives one so many opportunities to do new things.
This is the set up I’m using. The flashlight has a red led setting. I used a small inexpensive Godox strobe, it’s small and easy to carry and move. I use an Olympus OMD EM1 MarkII. It is very light, travels easily (I like to travel) and still takes high-quality pictures, despite being a crop sensor camera. The lens is the Olympus 60 mm Macro that has a size setting on the side that helps in focusing. I use a diffuser to get a less harsh light and control glare via the aperture.
It took me less than five minutes to find the toad in the cover shot, even though an hour walk only yielded three toads, all appear to be Gulf Coast Toads. But for my first attempt, I was pleased. Notice the very wide color schemes on these three amphibians. That made me want to think they were different species. But their overall structure makes me think they are the same. My next goal, an endangered Houston Toad. A beautiful amphibian.
