President Trump couldn’t send checks to everyone with his signature, so he used the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to send out 2020 White House reelection material.
A memo was sent in an IRS envelope paid for by the federal government.
The words were familiar to those who listen to Trump rallies either in arenas or the White House briefing. “Our great country...unprecedented..challenge”, “wage total war on this invisible enemy” , “we are working round the clock”, “take tremendous pride”, “conquered every previous challenge…triumph” and “rise to new heights of greatness”.
The envelope says it is Notice 1444 (EN-SP). It is signed by Donald, on White House letterhead, and references no IRS office. If you search the IRS site this notice 1444 it returns “Your search did not return any results.”
It is a campaign promotion item.
If there were functioning Inspector Generals, Ethics Officers, or Department of Justice this could never have been sent. There would be charges and firings. But alas there is no law or ethics.
There is a fig leaf. Buried in the letter is a statement a direct deposit has been made. There should be a direction to check your account and instructions on what to do if you didn’t receive the amount, but no.
Did the IRS provide the Trump reelection campaign at list of all the recipients of the letter? That would surely be a fine mailing list to have.
