In case you haven’t noticed I manage to find something to write about and to post on Daily Kos just about every day. I may be flattering myself but perhaps one or two of you noted my absence this morning.
The reason for this is that my MacBook power wire crapped out after only two years, as they are prone to do if you actually use the laptop on your lap like I do which twists the wire back and forth.
Fortunately, yesterday I noticed it seemed to be breaking where it plugs into the laptop and tried to push it together and I heard a snap inside its tip. I figured better safe than sorry so I ordered a new power charge cable from Amazon Prime for $13.99.
To make this already overly long story short, I put my power cord order in on Amazon and voilà, almost exactly 24 hours after I placed my order I got a text saying my order had been delivered. I went out to the mail box and there it was.
I plugged the power cord in and heard a satisfying soft “ping” sound and within an hour it was 50% charged and ready to go.
So here I am left with nothing of great import to post about except to note that I am online here thanks to two entities that Donald Trump hates.
One is Amazon because it was founded by his arch nemesis, and is currently owned in part by his arch nemesis the real multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos (currently worth $137 billion give or take). He also happens to own The Washington Post. Nuff said about that.
The other is the United States Postal Service. Here’s the latest pronouncement from Trump about his plan to destroy both the U.S. Mail and Amazon.
This is from The Washington Post today. Trump’s claim the Postal Service loses money on every e-commerce package it delivers (subscription required) Excerpts below:
President Trump is threatening to veto financial aid for the beleaguered U.S. Postal Service unless it hikes the price it charges for delivering packages — which he said should be quadrupled.
Note that he mentioned Amazon by the name. The Washington Post, of course, is owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder and chief executive of Amazon. The president is often displeased by reporting in The Post, which he occasionally labels the “Amazon Washington Post” even though The Post is not part of Amazon. Bezos has owned The Post since 2013 as a personal investment via Nash Holdings LLC.
Be that as it may, it’s certainly worth fact-checking whether the Postal Service loses money delivering packages for e-commerce merchants, as Trump claims.
In the end, Treasury cannot show us USPS is actually losing money on its contract with Amazon, as Trump claims. It can assert only that USPS does not know whether it makes a profit.
Trump earns Four Pinocchios. We’re happy to revisit this fact check if any evidence supporting his position emerges.
