I have never actually posted anything here before, but I am having an acute case of Spring Fever right now and I can’t help myself! So, please forgive me if I don’t do this right.
Spring is in full swing here in the Missouri Ozarks, and when I go on my daily walks I usually end up disturbing several different groups of butterflies. It has been raining almost every other day, and our dirt road has been retaining a lot of water. They love it!
Besides the Zebra Swallowtails and the Tiger Swallowtails there were also Pipevine or Spicebush Swallowtails, but they wouldn’t sit still long enough for a proper id and a photo. So here is a photo of one of the Tiger Swallowtails I was able to get close to:
Sometimes I see a swirling haze of light blue in the road ahead — the tiny Western Tailed Blues like the minerals that are currently available because of the wet sand in the road by our creek.
If you don’t look closely you would miss the Grapevine Epimenis Moth, which is even smaller than the blues. When the road is wet I have to watch my step or I could easily crush one and never know it.
I haven’t seen the Question Marks and Commas congregating lately. But they are still around. They usually see me first and disappear before I can aim my camera.
This Red Admiral was taking part in the puddle party, but was the only one of this type that was there. He really didn’t want his picture taken, so it is not as clear as I would have liked.
My final Butterfly photo for today is the Goatweed Leafwing, a lovely deep red-orange butterfly that can be mistaken for a leaf when his wings are closed if you don’t look closely:
But this is SPRING right now and there are so many other creatures around… But maybe I should save them for another day!
Self-isolating can be an amazing experience — have a wonder (and wander) filled day and please share your Springtime thoughts with me.
