I had to zoom in to take a “close-up” of the creek. You can’t even see the low-water crossing — it is underwater!

We have had a couple of days, including today, that had at least partial sunshine, so I did get to go for my walk and see what is starting to bloom.
After all the rains there are many wildflowers blooming. False Solomon’s Seal, which I see growing on a steep hill going down to a rushing stream, is one of them:
The color of the Common Corncockle is anything but common. It is a variation of magenta or fuchsia, and when the sun shines through the petals it is absolutely luminous!
Another strange and beautiful wildflower is getting ready to bloom. The Climbing Milkweed down by my neighbor’s mailbox is full of buds! I have only ever seen this wildflower here. Did my neighbor plant it or did it come here from the wild and find a comfortable place to grow?
Venus Looking Glass is now in full bloom. We should also be seeing Deptford Pinks by now, they usually show up at the same time, but I can wait. There are so many wildflowers to enjoy.
The Downy Mint is a favorite of the Great Fritillary Butterflies. The butterflies have not shown up yet, but now that these wildflowers are blooming, they can’t be too far behind.
The cinquefoil is not as showy as some of the other wildflowers that are blooming right now, but it is a pretty wildflower. Unfortunately the camera tends to wash out shades of yellow, making the true color difficult to capture on camera.
When the Crown Vetch wildflower vines start spreading out they quickly overtake an area. Right now there are only a few of them blooming, but soon they will be everywhere along the hedgerows.
Another oddly beautiful wildflower, Wild Bergamot (bee balm / horsemint) is growing everywhere right now.
There should be at least one living creature in this post — and I tried to get photos of birds and frogs during my walk, but they would not cooperate. I haven't seen as many damselflies and dragonflies as usual so far this year, but I did see this ebony jewelwing sitting pretty on a sunlit leaf.
There are many more things I would like to show you — Spring is an exciting time! But that will have to wait for another day.
