From the Minneapolis Star Tribune:
Marchers had just taken a knee for a moment of silence when a tanker trunk accelerated into the protestors. The highway was closed and the MN Dept. of Public Safety is investigating how the truck got on the highway in the first place.
The truck stopped on a bridge and the driver was dragged from the truck and is now in police custody.
Drew Valle, a special education teacher at Minneapolis Washburn High School, said cars still driving on the roadway were going slowly to the right of the throngs of people when the truck came speeding towards the marchers.
“He wasn’t stopping. He was beeping loudly and driving into a crowd of people,” said Valle, visibly shaken. “That’s the same kind of malice that brought us her. It’s a callous disregard for someone’s humanity.”
Melanie Ramos of Minneapolis said: “A truck came. The horns were blaring. It was picking up speed. It was plowing down the highway into the protesters. It was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen.”
Dominic Kerr said he could smell the fuel and hear it “sloshing around” as the tanker approached.
“He was coming about 30 mph. I know at least one person who definitely needs help” Kerr said.
There were many people protesting on the bridge.
And still police continue to escalate their violence. Here they are pepper spraying protestors.

From the St. Paul Pioneer Press:
Not to have a tragedy and many deaths is just an amazing thing,” Gov. Tim Walz said at 7 p.m., a little over an hour after the incident happened.
The driver was arrested and, after being treated at a hospital for non life-threatening injuries, he was released into to police custody. […]
TV aerial video and state traffic cameras showed a disturbing and chaotic series of events before 6 p.m. after a large crowd of marchers had taken to the interstate, which was officially closed at 5 p.m. It’s unclear how or why the truck got onto the roadway or what was the intent of the driver.
Here’s the full statement by the Department of Public Safety:
“Very disturbing actions by a truck driver on I-35W, inciting a crowd of peaceful demonstrators. The truck driver was injured & taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is under arrest. It doesn’t appear any protesters were hit by the truck.”
