White House Hijacks CDC Guidelines For School Reopenings | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC
—
Rachel Maddow compares the previous CDC guidelines for reopening schools in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic and the newly released guidelines which the Trump White House has manipulated to downplay the option of schools not reopening if the virus isn't contained.
Aired on 7/24/2020.
The screen capture at 0:36 looks like this. It is the original CDC guidance with a decision-tree for Re-opening America’s Schools:
The red annotations that I made to it, are some of the obvious changes — made by the Trump Administration — to the recently “reissued” CDC guidance. It is now a “watered-down” decision-tree for Re-opening America’s Schools, a de-fanged version of its original self.
Here are some of the “Executive Edits” that I spotted right off. There are probably more “differences” between the 2 documents, just waiting to be discovered in the Trump fine-print:
DELETED:
Is the school in a community no longer requiring significant mitigation?
EDITED to change a requirement into a suggestion:
Ensure Encourage social distancing such as increased spacing, small groups, limited mixing between groups.
EDITED to change a community-safety precaution into bureaucratic red-tape:
Be ready to close if there are increased cases.
It was changed to:
Be ready to consult with the local health authorities if there are cases in the facility or an increase in cases in the local area.

The original CDC guidance was quite hard to find, but here is a link to it:
www.uvi.edu/student-life/student-affairs/health-services/COVID19%20CDC%20Information%20Flyers.pdf
The updated watered-down CDC guidance is quite easy to find — there LOTS of links to it:
www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/Schools-Decision-Tree.pdf
Maybe you can spot more changes, that the Trump Administration has forced the CDC to make, to NOT protect our children in our Public Schools. But only to “encourage” some safety measures ...
… if you feel like it. Or not.

Oh yeah, there’s was this a while back, that almost blocked the release of the original CDC guidance:
So much for putting people first. That’s just NOT the GOP way.
Not in this lifetime … Not as long as the GOP is in charge … of this Trump-Pandemic chaos.
