How astonishingly inappropriate newly installed (assumed office June 16, 2020) Postmaster Louis DeJoy is:
“Since January 2020, DeJoy has donated $360,000 to President Trump’s re-election campaign and roughly $70,000 to the Republican National Committee.
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) noted that his career as a political operative and close ties to the president and Republican Party would threaten the non-partisan nature of the Postal Service.
DeJoy is the first postmaster in two decades without prior experience in the United States Postal Service. Critics point to apparent financial conflicts of interest, including DeJoy's investments in USPS contractors and competitors, such as UPS and trucking company J.B. Hunt.
Upon assuming office as Postmaster General, DeJoy began taking measures to reduce costs and slow the mail service.”
For the less than two months DeJoy has been Postmaster, he has been trying to run the USPS like a business, emphasis on cutting costs. This cost-cutting has resulted in slower mail delivery. With the pandemic raging and the presidential election in less than 100 days, slower mail delivery is not what the doctor ordered. These costs cutting measures include:
“...prohibiting overtime pay, shutting down sorting machines early and requiring letter carriers to leave mail behind when necessary to avoid extra trips or late delivery on routes.”
At yesterday's "press conference” with President Trump, the reporters were running down the rabbit hole The Mad Hatter had created when he tweeted about delaying the election, something he is not allowed by law to do. The reporters did not ask Mr. Trump about what DeJoy is doing right now by effectively slowing down the mail delivery just when we need normal or faster mail service. The House Oversight Committee has not expressed any interest in looking into this matter. Seems like now would be a good time to do that before Postmaster "DeLay” has any more time to really gum up the works for mail-in ballots before the election.
