As MissMyVillage helpfully pointed out in the comments, Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to Postmaster General DeJoy on August 6th after meeting with him, and yesterday, the same day I posted my article here, Speaker Pelosi and Carolyn Mahone (chair of Oversight committee) along with 192 House Democrats sent a second letter to Post Master DeJoy that
... called for the reversal of policies that have worsened the crisis facing the Postal Service and exacerbated a dramatic increase in delayed and undelivered mail.
The letter itself include the language:
We also remain concerned about a significant operational restructuring, done without any apparent analysis and consultation, which will weaken the ability of the Postal Service to respond to local needs.
While it does make several key points, the ultimate result of the letter feels akin to good old Susan Collins saying she is “concerned” or even “very concerned” about something..
The difference is in the case of Pelosi and her 193 congress person posse, they can follow up swiftly with another step — legislation that requires what they want. Again, it may not get through the senate hurdles, but it’s one more opportunity to make the Senate Republicans expose their true anti-democracy colors.
Overall, I say it’s good news, and I sure hope is is an opening move for Pelosi, not a Susan Collins political cover move.
Thanks again to Miss My Village for getting me up to speed!
