In an absolute political wipeout of a press conference Thursday, Donald Trump argued that journalist Bob Woodward should have “immediately” warned the American people about how dangerous the coronavirus was, and also admitted that China was more honest about the virus than he was.
Asked why he didn’t tell the public the virus was airborne, Trump responded: "If Bob Woodward thought what I said was bad, then he should have immediately, right after I said it, gone out to the authorities so they can prepare and let them know."
In the same bite, Trump argued that "everybody knew it was airborne” in early February, at the time of his interview with Woodward. Everybody didn’t know, but according to Trump, they should have because … wait for it … China told them.
“China said it was airborne earlier than the statements I made,” Trump admitted, while simultaneously arguing that the death and destruction caused by the virus was all China’s fault.
Wow, here I thought China was responsible but come to find out China was actually far more honest and forthcoming than Trump. Revelatory.
Trump also explained why he didn’t tell Americans the truth about the lethal nature of the pandemic. "There has to be a calmness—you don’t want me jumping up and down, screaming there's going to be great death ... and really causing some very very serious problems for the country."
Okay, I take that to mean 190,000 deaths and counting isn’t a “very very serious problem” in Trump’s view.
Watch it.
