So, I was going to write a happy, goofy diary because it is Walk weekend. But I can’t. I’m too sad, and honestly more than a little frightened. But I’m writing something, because the agencies that benefit from the Walk really need the help. And I know the election is soon, and candidates need money — but this is money that goes to help people, right now. A food bank, home cooked meals for people who need them, specialized dental services, a medical clinic. Here’s what they call my “vanity url”: https://give.classy.org/helpBeckyhelpothers (and… it isn’t making a link, huh — well you can copy & paste, or click on one of the embedded links instead — but the point is the same, we all need to help)
Here are some examples of what the money does:
$25 covers the purchase of 25 condom packets
$50 ensures a client doesn't pay out of pocket for medical or dental care
$65 provides 55 lbs of healthy food and produce for Food Bank client
$125 covers the cost of an uninsured person seeking PrEP
And yes, I’m posting a U2 song. Because — well, have you met me? I can’t not listen to my boys. And I think this is a suitable song. We get to carry each other — not have to, get to. It is a privilege to have the capacity — emotional as well as financial — to reach out to others and help them. Please donate at my AIDS Walk Austin page, if you can.
