Sometimes racism is loud, like when three cops shoot an innocent Black woman in her bed, and the only charges are for endangering the neighbors. Sometimes it’s as insidious as a word choice that’s easily missed.
But first, a word from our sponsor!

Below is a clip showing demonstrators shortly after the announcement that there would be no consequences for ending Breonna Taylor’s young life. The clip mostly shows people consoling each other in grief and anguish, followed by marching in protest.
The description Reuters chose for this was “Tempers flare.”
The tweet is followed by a zillion responses pointing out the inappropriate framing. There is good reason to be angry, but how is it possible the Reuters writer overlooked the sorrow, heartbreak and pain? The writer somehow only noticed a moment or two of cussing, and defaulted to “Black = angry.”
And I wonder how many cops have their default assumptions set much the same way.

From ninkasi23:
This comment from jqjacobs in SMGB has a powerful photo and the text following:
"In our world of climate change, there is no return to normal. Instead, we look ahead with some hope we can respond to the crisis soon enough to avert a much larger disaster than 5 million acres going up in flames. The rains came, the ash is washed down off the berries, grapes, fruit and vegetables, and the air is safe to breathe again. But the alarm bells won’t stop ringing ever again, I hope. As the season turns and the embers are dowsed we can’t slumber thinking the danger to our habitat has passed. We all must become gardeners of the whole earth and caretakers of all of nature’s creatures."

I was really impressed with FishOutofWater's comment in Mark Sumner's diary about Trump's court nominee... I especially loved the second paragraph.
“There’s a lie, like a black hole, at the center of constitutional originalism. The founders intended for the constitution to be able to grow with the republic and for it not to be like a boys clothes on a grown man.”
