Rumors have been swirling for the past several months that Tesla would soon offer a single-motor Standard Range version of the Model Y to go with its SR+ Model 3 sedan. Elon Musk seemed to cool to the idea, but last week the company pulled the trigger on the Model Y Standard Range, which will

I came up with the idea for this article after I noticed that Tesla is enabling the $10,000 Full Self Driving (FSD) capability on every Model 3 that it is selling used. I spoke to a couple of salespeople and verified that is the case (note that it could change at any time) and that

Renault Trucks has recently deployed another all-electric D Wide Z.E. truck in Switzerland, which was acquired by the Swiss haulier Rhyner Logistik.
A cool thing about this particular project is that Rhyner Logistik has retrofitted the truck with solar panels (26) on the roof to power the refrigeration unit.
Yes, we understand that you can't power the truck down the freeway on solar. This way, though, the truck can stand with the engine off and the cargo properly cooled.

Zero-emissions vehicles are great for the environment, and Tesla makes a lot of them. Elon Musk also owns SpaceX, so people are naturally going to lump them together in their minds. When someone sees a rocket launch, it's obviously not a zero-emission event. As Jerry Lee Lewis says,
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
No, this is not zero-emissions. It is carbon neutrality, using synthetic methane fuel made from CO2, water, and sunlight. We have ways to do that, but the concern for uses on Earth is cost.

Since the days of the first Nissan LEAF, which had 73 miles of range, and actually long before that first LEAF arrive, there have been colorful debates about consumers' range needs. On the one side, the average American drives fewer than 40 miles per day, and the average Brit or European drives abouot half that. However, one has to consider that you have the charge before the battery gets to 0% and you should seldom charge all the way up to 100%. Also, people may drive an average of 37 miles a day, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t regularly go on much longer day trips. Yet, as one final note: many homes have more than one car, and only one of them may be needed for longer trips.
Translation: It depends.
