The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge.
We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns spinning around us.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.

A silent white from the sky last night left a soft dust of quiet on the ground over the Mississippi hills. I walked a few miles before many things began to wake. I had my camera, eyes and ears open to record any thing I found. The childish feelings of wonder filled me again with every slow footfall.
I saw a Robin feeding on Privet drupes. Ignoring me and the blanket of white.
A Lincoln’s Sparrow shot out of the trees and onto a nearby limb. We both froze with the surprise that there was another being so close.
I walked down to the large pond at the end of the road. I expected to see geese or ducks or other water birds hunting. There was only the stillness and calm of reflection.
The pavement was too warm for the snow to stick. Sweet Gum balls held tiny caps of snow aloft.
The grass along the road bowed under the thickening coat. I stepped into the woods for a moment. Some unseen birds can be heard (though faint but not far away) in the video. My breathing seemed too loud for the soft air.
Cardinals gathered to feed together and spar over soon to be mates. I figure other people will show their photos of them. Blue Jays barked at the disruptive white flakes from the tree line. They avoided my lens.

For the rest of the world that gets snow every winter, this may be normal and easily overlooked. A rare time for us here in the Deep South is worth sharing. A new year and new look at our world is very welcome. I’ll take it as a good omen.
