The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (also known as the 9-11 Commission), was an independent, bipartisan commission created by congressional legislation and the signature of President George W. Bush in late 2002. The 9-11 Commission was chaired by former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean, the commission consisted of five Democrats and an equal number of Republicans. That Commission was chartered to prepare a full and complete account of the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, including preparedness for and the immediate response to the attacks. The Commission was also mandated to provide recommendations designed to guard against future attacks.
On July 22, 2004 the Commission released its public report, and the Government Printing Office made copies available in bookstores nationwide.
On August 21, 2004 the Commission released two staff monographs, along with other staff statements prepared by Thomas Eldridge, Susan Ginsburg, Walter T. Hempel II, Janice Kephart,
and Kelly Moore, with assistance from Joanne Accolla.
It’s clear that we need a similar Commission to examine the events leading up to the 1-6 Capitol Riot. The commissioners and staff will need to include representatives of both political parties and should include but perhaps not be exclusively comprised of individuals with legal training and investigative expertise.
Here is a list of the 9-11 commissioners —

it isn’t too soon to begin considering recommendations for who the Congress might enlist for the 1-6 Commission. It seems reasonable that the background gender, ethnicity, education, experience and training of the Commissioners should be varied. It might include retired Congressman and Senators, individuals with experience in Law Enforcement, the FBI and Justice Department, retired military leaders, former US Attorney’s, but also legal scholars, investigative journalists, historians, psychologists, anthropologists, social media experts.
I started to try to begin compiling a list of likely candidates and found that I just don’t know enough to make meaningful suggestions. Who would you like to see appointed to a 1-6 Commission ? These were some of my thoughts.
