January 2021
Pacific Northwest
Winter ducks are a big plus to this stormy season. I see them everywhere. Do you see winter ducks?
These are a few spots I came across them in the past week.
— In a wet field that becomes a giant puddle in winter (while out doing a swan count, no swans in my assigned site but definitely ducks) —
Several species of ducks foraging. Mostly tipping.
— Over on the mainland last week, waiting for the ferry —
North side of Washington Park:
A couple of Harlequin duck drakes step onto a rock to do some grooming.
.
Beach next to the dock:
The ferry at the end is currently broken down (frequently. It’s a recently constructed vessel that’s turned out to be a lemon arggh).
Two pairs of American Wigeons foraging in shallow water.
🦅
Mostly sunny in the PNW islands today. Temp high 30s today. Windy and gusty out of the SE.
