Now that Trump is largely out of the picture in terms of direct power — but his fans still constitute 80+% of the party (conservatively speaking… ha) … I’m wondering, do their loyalties still lie with Putin in practical terms ahead of the American public?
I think they do. I think if Putin started committing military actions against US targets, even openly declaring war on the USA — then the Republican party would deny any actions of any form against Russia, and blame Democrats for exactly that lack of action.
And I think their party voters would see that as acceptable.
Why am I so certain of this?
Think about what has been consistent in all the betrayals of every issue that gets 65% or approval in the USA, like legalizing marijuana, well funded healthcare, healthy social security, etc.
Now — think about why Republicans stand united against all those things.
It’s not that they don’t want those things. They openly do in a lot of cases — yet they vote against them in virtually all cases.
The real reason is because those are the things that would cause Americans to trust their government more. To trust other Americans more.
That’s also why they refuse to ever punish any politician that is found to be openly corrupt — it’s why Trump went so completely out of his way to explicitly pardon the most corrupt politicians of any party.
That’s why I can be so certain that they would support Putin still, even in the face of open military action. Even without Trump’s voice in their face anymore.
Because the most critical thing to them, in every action, is that you have less trust the idea of America as a stable government. Because it’s the most crucial aspect to their remaining power.
They would rather sacrifice anything in the world than seeing a competent government — betray everything, and defend the indefensible than see a trusted institution we all can respect.
I think that point needs to be pressed more, since it’s so consistent in their actions.
