Maya Angelou once said that when people tell you who they are, we’d best believe them. Well, in the last few weeks, we’ve found out who Marjorie Taylor Greene really is. And it’s even worse than we thought. Not only did she have no qualms about threatening Democrats and endorsing threats against them, but she has trafficked in conspiracy theories as well as racist and anti-Semitic bile of the worst type. And to top it off, she has no qualms about harassing mass shooting victims.
Well, the Mad Georgian isn’t at all happy about it. Yesterday, she tried to claim that she really isn’t the monster that those mean old libruls and their media handmaidens are making her out to be. Apparently that didn’t work, because she took to Twitter with this.
She posted a similar message to Facebook.
I have to admit, I’m confused which “mob” that the Mad Georgian is railing about. Is it the reporters and social media users who have exposed her as one of the most manifestly unfit and unqualified people ever to serve in Congress? Or is it the 81 million people who voted to fire her dear one?
So if we call her out for her tacit endorsement of political violence, are we a mob? And if we point out that the original video in which she made said endorsement was made by a group that seems to think the NRA is too moderate, are we a mob? Apparently so.
One thing’s for certain—Greene is probably being held to account for the first time in her life, or maybe one of the few times in her life. She’s going to have to get used to it.
Indeed, people in her own district are already working on the Herculean task of challenging her—if not in 2022, possibly sooner in the event she’s finally run out of Washington. The Floyd County (Rome—the Mad Georgian’s nominal district residence; she parachuted in from Alpharetta) Democratic Party is coordinating a fundraising effort in her district. Presumably, much, if not all, of that money will go to whoever ultimately steps forward to run against her. Whoever that Democrat is will have his or her work cut out for her. Remember, much of that district is in the uber-expensive Atlanta market. Another large chunk is in the Chattanooga market, where the great majority of viewers won’t be able to vote for whoever challenges Greene. I asked for details on what they’re doing; here’s their response.
Given the likelihood that Greene may be run out of town before 2022, they may need it sooner than later. Click here to donate. Plus, there’s already a Democrat running here, Brittany Trambauer-Smith. She’s just on Twitter for now @BTrambauer, but she’ll have a campaign site up soon.
Let’s not beat around the bush—this is a tough, tough, tough district. It has a PVI of R+27, and no Democrat running here has gotten even 30 percent of the vote. But Democrats do have an opening here. The Dem who initially stepped up in 2020 against Greene, Kevin Audsal, still got 25 percent of the vote even after being forced to withdraw from the race two months before the election. If enough people were already ticked off at Greene to basically vote for a placeholder, what will they do when they actually have a choice?
So you’re whining about a mob, Marjorie? Well, you may be about to see what a real mob looks like—a mob of people who aren’t afraid to hold you to account.
