Hello, my little dumplings. How’s the sauce?
Greetings and welcome to a truly tiny community open thread. I barely took any photos this week so there’s not much to share.
But please, do come on in and rest a spell. Share a thought, a link, a cause, a complaint to the management. It’s all good.
Last weekend I was at the chalupa, our home away from home, out in the country. We enjoyed the company of #1 Son and #2 Son. It’s become a rare event to have all four of us, plus Fabulous Mother-In-Law together. The lads have college concerns and their own lives and loves calling for their time. We managed to get quite a bit done. Apples were picked, carrots were pulled, wood was chopped, grass was moved and #2 Son and I cut, sanded and oiled a few boards to put over the troughs in that room we’d been renovating over the summer.
We’re stalling on the painting of the room until we get some warmer weather, but we did move in a bunch of furniture to try things out.
I also spent some time scraping and sanding the eternally blossoming rust patches on our poor old car. Managed to poke a hole through one fender. A victim of poor design, there was an accumulation of debris trapped inside a pocket at the base of the fender. It had become sort of a mini compost heap of leaves and muck that made sure there was a permanent wet spot against the metal. I chased off a little Sow Bug that had been living there, dug out a bit of the rich soil and taped over the hole. I’m not equipped to cut away all the corroded metal and weld in a fresh bit of steel plate. Sigh, gonna be spending more money on an old car. Anyway, I did give a primer coat of paint to the other spots. I hope that the weather will allow for a final coat this weekend.
At home this week there was a lot of preparation work in anticipation of four new doors being installed next week. I had four metal door frames to scrape and sand and cover with a good coat (or two) of enamel paint. The cold, wet weather hasn’t been ideal for airing out the apartment, but hooph! air it we must. I threatened to put on my Ramones albums at absurd volume levels while I was working. There’s something about the heady aroma of paint thinner that I associate with punk bands from Queens. Well, after killing off a few superfluous brain cells, I was practically ready to buy a guitar myself. At any rate, there were the usual English lessons to be taught and not a great deal of scribbling done.
Still, it was a pretty good week. I managed to get out and about for walks in the drizzle. The maples are about at the peak of their fall color. A lot of the other trees seem to be biding their time.
Thanks for stopping by.
