My leg is better by far than it was a couple weeks ago. Still stiff, and I have to take things slow when I’m not using a cane; but I’m getting better by the day.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

There has been a discussion of swearing on the site this past week (Wednesday’s Cheers and Jeers). Somebody (I think it was Audri) brought up this and this.
An obsidian spirit mirror used by John Dee is proved to have come from Mexico. How he got it is another study altogether.
A relatively recent wildfire in California. Parts of Highway 101 are closed.
Archaeological evidence is that tobacco use started about 12,300 years ago.
Projections of the effects of sea level rising for some American locations. From The Guardian.
Is everything we know about the birth of America wrong? Quite possibly — odds appear good.
I think somebody talked about this elsewhere, but a county clerk in Colorado is barred from participating in November’s election because it was adequately proven to a judge that she did quite a few things she wasn’t legally allowed to.
Most Roman emperors died by violence of one kind or another. Anybody surprised?
Nicholas Kristof appears to be a nativeborn Oregonian. He’s exploring a run for governor here.

I am getting really tired of the doom and gloom. There are a good many precautions that are both easy and practical, and very much needed right now; but this isn’t going to last forever. And our government was designed to work slowly — or, at least, that’s what I was taught in my social studies and history classes in high school.
I am even more tired of people blaming President Biden for everything under the sun. He isn’t being blamed for things that happened before he was born, like happened to President Obama; but that may just be a matter of time.
My grandson is well again and back at school. So is my granddaughter well, but there is the list of contacts the school got from a sick classmate, and the needful quarantine for being exposed to Covid. Both tests were negative, so back to high school, too.
The weather is cooling off. It’s been almost down to freezing overnight the last couple of days. I’m sure there are places in the area that had frost — slight differences in elevation can make quite a bit more difference in weather than a lot of people think. We have a stripe around town when the snow level gets to 500’.
Remember the fanfic I’ve talked about here? Over the last week or so, I read all 380 pages of it out loud. It’s how I figure out punctuation and phrasings. I’m also trying to decide how to make it entirely mine. I’ve had a couple of ideas — one seems better than the others, so I’m trying to think how to make it can work. No, I’m not going to ask for advice, since this is still just for me; but it may be years before I get bored, if ever.
