Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns spinning around us.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.

Our friend and partner Jeff confided that he believes photos which tell a story make the best Buckets. That makes sense to me! Problem is when you see something spectacular happening, more often than not, it’s too late to get the pictures you want most. So, I have been trying harder to find stories by taking sequences of photos leading to some type of exciting conclusion. Wouldn’t you know it doesn’t happen very often that something outrageous, or spectacular, is happening when you are looking for photographs to take...other than whatever is normally outrageous and/or spectacular about the subject. However, IMO nature provides for that to be enough. I think it may be especially true when you are focusing on birds in flight. I consider birds in flight to be a miracle of nature, and what could be more compelling than witnessing a miracle?
Sequence 1 is a series of photos I was able to take right here at home, at my pond. A beautiful egret, though shy, had found something it really wanted, but was leery of allowing me to get close enough to get good photos. Because there is no cover to aid in my approach I had to employ the “sneak up in plain sight” strategy. Sneaking up in plain sight is a technique of moving so slowly it is indiscernible. You appear not to be a threat because you don’t appear to be moving. It took me about 45 minutes to gain about 35 yards. The egret kept close tabs on me at all times, but decided he could do his hunting and keep track of me at the same time. The good news is we both got some of what we were after!

Sequence #2 is a sequence of BIF photos taken over a period of several months with time between each capture, but all are of very similar pose. I like doing this so I can compare similarities and differences of birds doing the same thing.
It’s raining here again today (10/28/21), just as it did yesterday and is supposed to do the same tomorrow. It hasn’t stopped for night breaks either. The wind is hissing through the trees. Chore time is accomplished in full wet gear.
I’ve been busy playing lawyer the last few weeks and it seems as though I finally did something right. Despite yet another delay closing on dad’s house is officially scheduled for 3 pm 11/3/21 (delayed from 10/28). If that goes off as planned nothing will dampen my spirits. WOOHOO! It’s been a looong time coming and is a story I will relish coming to an end.
So, that’s the name of this tune. Hope you have some fun with this and hope your weather is better than mine. We’re all in this together. I have more Photo Sequences in line for a later date, but the point is to get you to see what you can find in the way of photo sequences. The more the merrier. I can hardly wait to see what you come up with.
