This letter to the editor ran in yesterday’s San Rafael Independent Journal.
COVID-19 is currently the leading cause of death among active police officers. With this in mind, I called the Central Marin Police to make sure that all my employees working there are vaccinated. I was horrified to learn that they are not, nor are they required to be. Officers who are not vaccinated must test at intervals. The chief could hold our public employees to a higher standard, but he chose not to.
This is not acceptable. It is not in the same galaxy as "acceptable."
Change starts with identifying a problem. I have identified one. If anti-vax police officers risk my health and the health of my other tax-paid employees by ignoring a reasonable standard, I would ask that their uniforms have an identifying emblem so the public and their colleagues can keep a safe distance.
