I’ll be 55 years old in January. For my entire life, I’ve voted a straight Democratic ticket. And I’ve mostly been proud to do so. But in the last 15-20 years, the level of political incompetence is too high, too pronounced, to ignore. I can no longer support a party that has absolutely no desire to do what it takes to win.
Here are but three points, not conclusive, of the political malpractice the party has committed.
- In 2010, the Republicans won a ton of state legislatures, giving them the ability to gerrymander to their hearts content. And they did so. The number of truly competitive seats dwindled. Did the Dems learn anything from this? Nope. The exact same thing happened in 2020, which will only make the matter worse. But wait! We’ll sue and win in court!
- No we won’t. The Republicans control the courts. Even if we win at the federal district or appellate level, we’ll run into a 6-3 conservative buzz saw at the Supreme Court. Don’t believe me? Ask Susan Collins who assured us that Kavanaugh viewed Roe as a super precedent. The Dems did issues a non-committal report on the matter which is … nothing.
- And now we have Joe Manchin announcing — to literally no one’s surprise — that he won’t support BBB. If you’re in any way shocked by this, please, let’s play poker because only the most simplistic fool didn’t see this one coming.
- Let me add this — if the Republicans don’t win elections, they’ll simply stage a coup, be it overt or covert. What are the Dems doing about this? Issuing sternly worded letters.
I quit. I’m done. I’m finished.
