So I wish this were a joke. It seems like this should be a joke. I truly thought, upon first hearing it, it was a Saturday Night Live skit. But no it is real, and this actually happened.
For some background I was born roughly seven miles from where this occurred. I have no explanation for the political shift of this area. I have tried to explain a lot of things in my life. I have tried to come up with theories for Stonehenge, for why there seems to be a face on Mars, shoot, I have even asked if the mild mannered Reginald Dwight, (Elton John) still has a penchant for fighting on Saturday nights.
But I have never figured just what happened to turn Jefferson County, Missouri once so blue in the 1990’s there was not even a single Republican judge, to so red that when the popular Democratic collector had to leave due to ALS, her deputy decided to run as a Republican.
People I stood hand in hand with stumping for Bill Clinton are now so MAGA they would not even be allowed on our doorstep.
So this is the context with which I show you this next story.
"OK. I’m going to report you, OK?" said the officer on the video. 5 On Your Side is not naming him at this time because he has not been charged with any crime. "You’re going against the law. You know that, right?" he continued. "There’s an executive order by Eric Schmitt saying you cannot wear a mask."
The confrontation happened last Friday. Earlier that week Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt put out a call for parents to report school districts still requiring masks after a Cole County court invalidated mask mandates by state and local health departments. Schmitt even called for parents to take photos and video of violations.
But Missouri's attorney general does not have the authority to issue executive orders and school boards across the St. Louis region say they have the authority to issue their own mandates separate from health departments. Rockwood said it requires masks on buses to comply with federal regulations regarding public transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This cop was not even on duty, and he was not even in his jurisdiction. Turns out according to the video he was patrolling his child’s school district. And he approached the bus armed.
This is what Missouri voted for, so this is what it gets. A wild stampede of stupid and hubris and people who think they are smarter than a virus, which they should in theory be, because the virus has told you how to mitigate it.
This whole thing to a large extent is like if the slasher in Scream contacted everyone updating his location and intent before he attempted to kill them. Sure like in my case, he (Covid) might cut you. But I have a chance to not die, because I was wearing protection. And sometimes it sneaks up on you.
But imagine if the guy (Covid) sent you a message: “At 9:45 p.m. I will attempt to call your house to see if you are home. I will be virulent, and very contagious. At 9:45 you might not want to answer the phone. At 9:45 it might not be a good idea for you to be home. I can’t stress this enough, 9:45 be at a Burger King or something or I will infect you.
Missouri: “Eff you buddy, I will leave the door unlocked.”
Covid: “Wear a mask at least?”
Missouri: “ I ain’t ‘fraid of ya.”
Anyways I am exhausted and the lovely Mrs. Claw has helped me with this post. Just thought you might enjoy this piece becaue it was personal to me, and exemplifies everything that has gone wrong with intelligence in this country.
UPDATE: Oxygen is at 95. Contemplating ER visit but when I called they said it was “overloaded.” Will have Val (Mrs. Claw) keep you posted.
