My daughter's ex didn't need to use the car at any time I would have actually wanted it. And his new apartment is right above where he works, so no problem in future, either.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Apparently, gold fell out of fashion in Colchis in the Caucausus for about 700 years.
A rendition of my favorite Christmas carol, live in Hawaii: Carol of the Bells.
Five generations of one family in a neolithic tomb. Study of ancient DNA seems to be an increasingly exciting field.
Liftoff projections for the James Webb telescope, as of Friday.
A garbage dump has been found in a temple dedicated to Hathor. It seems to have been where old votive offerings were disposed of.
This one is correct. Annoying, but correct.
Air Force, and probably other military archaeologists, have begun partnering with local tribes to understand what they find at excavation sites. Tobacco use 9000 years before previously believed in this case.
Our former weatherdude, who is much missed by some of us, posted about the threatened storms on DAMWeather.

I replaced a lampshade that came with the apartment, and the 40W incandescent bulb in the sconce with a 60W LED, and suddenly I can actually see what’s in my living room.
On Wednesday, my firstborn sent me a video of my grandson rolling down the Page Museum at the Tar Pits. She did forget the bubble stuff, though. When she was little, we lived maybe a block from there, and not a whole lot farther away for several years following. There are some fabulous air currents off the roof of the Page Museum — we used to spend hours there chasing bubbles.
Most of what I did last Wednesday was laundry. It took from about 8:15 AM to 10:15 PM. The posted hours for the laundry room are 8:30 to 10:00. It would have taken less time in the other laundry room, probably; but the one I use is right next to my apartment, and I can’t exactly blame the single dryer there for being unable to handle huge numbers of sheets at a time.
Have I mentioned that I cleaned out a couple of my closets and spent a week feeling every minute of my age? That says more about the state of my closets than the state of my body. I can find stuff in them now.
And I can now officially tell people that a job my firstborn applied for in a different department of the division she’s worked in since she moved to Portland in 2007 was offered to her and accepted within an hour of the interview. She starts sometime in January.
Cornbread made on Friday — a few additions to it to make using it for stuffing easier. Mirepoix fried up in bacon grease, and some sage. I also left the sugar out of the Alber’s recipe — cornbread for stuffing doesn’t need sugar.
Another odd Christmas present popped up in my email on Friday. Of course, this is for the entire Book Devouring Horde, but still, it’s a prezzie I’m grateful for — the first chapter of the new Innkeeper book from Ilona Andrews.
I spatchcocked the duck and then used biryani paste on it. I splayed it out over a pile of the stuffing I made and put it in the oven for two hours at 350F. Considering the size of the duck, that guarantees no food poisoning.
I invited my daughter’s ex to come over today and have some duck. It’s mostly his side the offspring are in Los Angeles to visit. Whether he shows up or not remains to be seen.

Love you guys!
