In March of 2020, the Rochester NY PD killed a man in a mental health crisis. He ended up dead, naked, face down in the street with a bag over his head.
There were protests, there was uproar, there were resignations.
People thought that maybe the message had gotten through, maybe things would get better and the police would behave more responsibly.
Yeah right.
Yesterday morning the Rochester PD arrived at a home in response to a report of a child having a mental health crisis. Before it was done you had 5 cops on scene, and they had manhandled, handcuffed, verbally abused, and pepper sprayed a 9 year old girl who was crying for her daddy.
They actually told her to stop acting like a child at one point.
I have no words for how reprehensible the actions of these supposed to be officers of the law were.
Telling a a child to get in the car or you are going to pepper spray her right in the eyeballs, under any circumstances is so far beyond the bounds of decency it should not need speaking of. Doing it under this sort of traumatic circumstance is so heinous, so beyond reason and sanity…
Of course the union is proclaiming that it is difficult to get people into cars, and the officers were doing a hard job.
Apparently the idea of being kind and reassuring to a terrified child is just too hard for some Rochester cops.
The community is not happy.
