I don’t know how we managed to get to February so fast! Sure, there were dayss that felt about ten years long, but after the great century that was 2020, January pretty much flew by (to me at least, YMMV). I suspect it flew by for me because last Thursday, K1 headed back to her University home for the first time since arriving back home in a beat-the-travel-between-states restrictions move last May. As this publishes she’ll be finishing the first class of her second semester of graduate school (all of her classes are at night as many of the students are involved either teaching or interning in the local schools during the day). Her classes will once again all be virtual, but living in a room that did not at one time contain your crib with housemates who do not go to sleep at 11pm was an important part of her decision to return.
Many of us have been or currently are being hit by the first megastorm of 2021. In years past we’d be quietly looking forward to a day when it was suggested folks work from home, when students had a snow day, and when sneaking in some quality time making tea and binging Netflix was novel. Yeah, what that means now is that lots of folks are working from home, kids have remote school, and we’ve bingewatched all the things and look forward to shoveling. Well maybe not that last part depending on how heavy the stuff will be tomorrow, but you know what I mean.
We’re ready to be hunkered down, however. In what passes for exciting these days, I tried a new soup recipe and OMFG it’s delicious. K2 is beginning his new semester, too — and made the swap from hybrid school (alternating weeks of in-person and remote learning) to fully remote classes. Mr. Brillig is dutifully quarantining after dropping K1 off, since MA requires quarantine until a negative test result can be produced, and based on travel dates he’ll test on Wednesday or Thursday. I’ve got a warm dog snuggled nearby (and who is allowed to sleep on K1’s bed, which is where I am this Quarantine Week.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
