The hamberder lists:
Originally, the “All Recent Stories” line was actually a link to a page with both Staff and Community stories. There were problems with this, partly because of changes to do with republishing stories to the Front Page, and I see the link is no longer valid. I think that one gets a sigh of relief, though I was hoping there would be a simple way to set it up.
I have a wish for all the lists that this menu accesses — I wish they were all set up to run in the menu space, rather than full page. What reads just fine on a phone looks silly on a full width page, but would look just fine at about 1/3 or ¼ page width.
Both the Community and the Staff lists are working the way they need to, and you can now sort by Time&Date, # of Comments, and # of Recommends to the listing, as you wish. It’s not really obvious, though, and it would be nice to have a line that says “Sort by” at the top of the dropdown. The second line that says “Most to least” gives you a choice, as long as you don’t click on the arrows on the right — in that case, it just sits there.
The Trending list looks a little strange; instead of showing how much time a diary has been on the list, or how long since it’s been published, it shows how long it’s been since the list was updated — the same number for each story, since the update is across the entire list each time. I would say that needs to change, if possible.
Elections, Community Groups, Actions, and Civiqs are exceptions, in that they don’t offer lists, but instead are bookmarks to locations on the Front Page where those entries occur. Civiqs seems to be having a bit of a problem there…
The New Help Desk
It’s really, really new. If you haven’t seen elfling’s writeup, here’s the link.
The Group Pages
When they first came out, my normal settings (120% zoom, browser at about 4/5 width) worked wonderfully well. There were options for seeing a number of different sets of information, and clicking on one of the headings brought up that information. For my work, that was perfect. For Groups that actually had members, and needed to be able to set permissions for them, it was unworkable. So it was changed, except that all I saw of it was that there was only one heading that was valid, and the other links weren’t working.
That was going to be my third topic in this diary. Except when I went to set the page up to take a Screenshot, and set Zoom to 100%, a) the links all came live immediately, and b) a look at the page revealed a totally different layout that was set up to let real Group administrators be able to to their job.
It was a major change, that I missed entirely because I keep DK in Portrait mode for easier reading.
I don’t think that the unavailability of links in portrait mode was deliberate, though...
The DKtionary 2021
What does that abbreviation/acronym/nickname/inside joke/jargon mean? Introducing DKtionary 2021!
TrueBlueMajority has taken on the unenviable, but oh, so useful task of alphabetizing everything about Daily Kos. Well, sort of. If you haven’t seen that diary, you should check it out.
