Wind power is good. That should be hard for me to say economically, because I’m a Pipefittter. If a turbine in not being turned by a heat source pushing dry H2O gas (steam), then my skills are of no use building or maintaining a facility that requires no pipe to contain and direct the flow of gas, liquids or solids. There are far greater concerns than my bottom line, though, not least of which is keeping our planet inhabitable.
A discussion of the facts is always good, and we need ass clowns like Tucker Carlson to STOP. Just stop. There is literally nothing he does that does not pose a liability. Seriously, we tried the “lie about everything” route...again, it didn’t work, at least stop being part of the problem, and if you can’t be part of the solution, get the fuck out of the way!
Tucker Carlson blames the Green New Deal for power failures in Texas, warning of the dangers and unreliability of wind turbines in cold weather. The net wind power generation in Texas accounts for 10% the total net power generation in that state. I’m a Pipefitter, so I don’t know how to run a wind turbine regardless of climate, but I do know that here in Iowa, we are proud to lead the nation in proportional wind power generation of 36% (according to the lowest estimates) of the state’s overall power generation, and growing, and that is year round. We also know a thing or two about cold weather.
I live in Iowa, a place that has a potential 165 degree fahrenheit year round temperature range, heat index and wind chill both notwithstanding. I personally get to sweating above freezing. I worked close to home in the middle of summer on a job with a guy from south Florida, and when it got about 110 degrees and I was sweating buckets he gave me a little friendly shit about it. Okay. Another job I worked close to home in the middle of winter with a guy who had been working in northern Alberta for the past 7 year, and when it got down in the negative 40’s and I was beginning to get uncomfortably cold, he gave me a little friendly shit too. Okay. Both them guys said the same thing, “this ain’t nothing.” Both jobs lasted about 7 months, and come the opposite ends of the Iowa season, both them guys were hurting bad, moaning “how can you stand this!?”, Florida on account of 7 degrees (above), and Alberta on account of 99 degrees. Of course those were accompanied by freezing rain and 100% humidity, respectively, but hey, that’s Iowa.
I feel for the folks having a hard time down in Texas, but Tucker Carlson and his ilk are not helping anyone who needs it by lying and knowingly making factually inaccurate and logically fallacious false equivocations about unrelated shit based on some political agenda while people are dying needlessly. And as another user pointed out, he looks like a guy watching people eat mayonnaise with a spoon right from the jar. Who is this for?
