Earlier today, the Supreme Court refused to hear a raft of 11th-hour challenges to the election results in five states narrowly won by Joe Biden. Most notably, the Supremes refused to take up a challenge to Pennsylvania’s decision to extend the deadline for accepting mail-in ballots. While Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch wanted to take it up, they weren’t able to persuade another justice to join them.
Tellingly, the other two justices picked by Trump—Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett—weren’t willing to go along. While you would expect a lot of MAGA heads to explode, the most alarming reaction of all came from Johnny Enlow, one of the “prophets” profiled in Politico’s recent piece about the pro-Trump pastors who believe Trump will return to the presidency. He openly called for a military coup.
Unfortunately, Facebook posts can no longer embed, but I got a receipt.
Wow. This should send a chill down the spine of any fair-minded American. Remember, we’re almost two months removed from the January 6 coup, and a month into the Biden administration. While it should come as no surprise that diehard Trumpers are still engaging in talk about a coup, it’s absolutely breathtaking to see one of them being this brazen about it.
It comes as no surprise to this veteran religious right watcher that Enlow has dropped any pretense of democracy. He is one of the leading lights in the New Apostolic Reformation, an overtly fascist offshoot of the religious right that believes Christians under the leadership of “apostles” and “prophets” like him can bring about the Second Coming by taking over the “seven mountains,” or forces, that influence our culture—business, family, entertainment, media, education, religion, and especially government. They believe that once they take over the world and put down all resistance to them, they will be able to hand the world to Jesus on a platter. Among the other major Trumpvangelicals in the NAR are Lance Wallnau, Rick Joyner, and Cindy Jacobs. They’re birds of a feather with Trump. After all, we’re talking about a former president who was, at the very least, an embryonic fascist joining hands with people wrapping fascism in the cross.
This needs to be slapped down, and hard. Let Enlow have it on Facebook and on Twitter. And report it to Facebook for advocating violence.
